Devot. Rejoicing in the Dark

HI Folks,

I hope you have had a good week.

The devot. below is on finding blessings in the midst of trials
and specifically reminding yourself of those blessings God has sent you in the past as way of seeing
the hope He has for you in the future.   Jeremiah 29:11 states "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end."

Remember how I've said in the past that God can bring beauty out of our pain, if we let Him?
He wants to give us hope, a future, in the the midst of the trias we go through and have beauty come out of the ashes.

Below is the devot. and also a news link.   I saw the story on tv today, wanted to share with you all and than amazingly saw it was a feature article on my home page tonight.  Thank you, Lord!

It's an amazing story of hope rising out of Hurricane Harvey. The gentleman has the right attitude and perspective, as you will read within the first few paragraphs.   He knows God will do something through the trial...Lord bless this man and his family.

Keep praying for the folks in TX and LA.  I am seeing answers to the prayers being lifted up,so keep them coming!  ("Then shalt thou call, and the Lord shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am." Isaiah 58:9)

Pray the devot. and story blesses you this weekend.

Devot. Meaning in the Solar Eclipse?

Hi Folks,

I hope you have had a good week!   A friend of mine emailed me this devot. from a mutual pastor friend of ours and he got it from somewhere:)  I emailed the pastor who wrote this devot. and he gave me permission to send it to you.
It hits the spot based on the Eclipse this week!  Pray the Lord uses it in your life this weekend to encourage you.  God bless!

(The following is Used by the Permission of Dr. Bill Shade- http://billshade.org/)

"Thanks to a co-worker who laid a pair of solar glasses on my desk and encouraged me, I like thousands and tens of thousands of others just watched the total eclipse of the sun --   awesome experience!  I should remember this one, it was a day before my birthday."

"As always, the prognosticators, and want-to-be prophets have been trying to assign some kind of meaning to this event.  None have been very convincing and all are touting a hundred different messages.  But we do not have to assign meaning to this – the meaning lies clearly within the event itself.  "

"Scientists, within recent years, have come to recognize the ideal place our little planet has to observe events like this.  Many have concluded that of the millions of planetary bodies in the universe, earth’s position in the Milky Way Galaxy, and the position of the Galaxy in the universe, makes our earth the perfect platform for observation.  Other planets are enveloped with clouds or cosmic dust, or just obscured by other bodies, but ours has a clear view of the entire universe.  The precision of all this has made scientists call our position in the universe, “The Goldilocks Zone,” – not too far, not too near, not too anything – just right!  "

"How novel.  Almost as if someone wanted us to be able to observe this awesome universe in which we live."

"Think about that, the moon just happens to be in exactly the right position between the sun and the earth to provide this total, precise, perfect eclipse.  If the moon were even a tiny bit larger or smaller, or if it were positioned a degree or two closer or further from the earth, the event we all watched today would have been impossible.  How precise is that?  And there is one thing sure in this universe – random, unguided forces do not produce precise, perfect results."

"And because that is so obvious, many scientists have come to the conclusion that a total solar eclipse, demands nothing less than an intelligent designer to produce it.  Intelligence, so far as we can tell, is present only in living persons – and that would imply a Living Person behind all this."

"But let me take it a step further.  It is not only necessary to have a perfect design to produce what we have watched, it is necessary to have the power to produce it and to control it.  Paul expressed it like this, “for the invisible things of Him are clearly seen from the creation (the universe), even His eternal power and godhead” (Romans 1:20).  The Psalmist said, “The heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament showeth His handiwork (Psalm19:1)."

"So, yes, the message is in the event.  We have a Sovereign God who has created and who controls this universe, and He is pleased to display His power from time to time, so that we will worship Him, and not be dismayed as we look at a deeply troubled world – He has control of that as well, and when He has allowed man’s rebellion to fully manifest itself and to run its course, He will eclipse that as well, and “The Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings” (Malachi 4:2)."

Always Amazed by His Grace,
Dr. Bill Shade

Devot. Creation and the Constellations

Hi Folks,

I hope you had a great start to your week and were also able to see the Eclipse to some extent:)

I was telling someone yesterday that I think the heavenly display was God's way of shouting, "Hello!  I really do exist!"

Psalm 19:1 says, "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork."

~"Declare" means, "to make known formally, officially, or explicitly;" "to make evident ."  (merriam-webster.com)

~"Glory" means, "praise, honor, or distinction extended by common consent";  "worshipful praise, honor, and thanksgiving."  (merriam-webster.com)

~"Firmament" means "sky" and "Handywork" means "creation."

So to break this verse down, we could read it, "The heavens officially make evident the worshipful praise and honor of God and the skies show His creation."

So true with what I saw yesterday!

Colossians 1:14-17 states, "In whom we have redemption through his (Jesus')  blood, even the forgiveness of sins:  Who is the image of the invisible God,.....
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him (His glory and praise) And he (Jesus) is before all things, and by him all things consist (means 'hold together')."

The display we saw yesteday was created by none other than God Alone.   The skies were shouting out praise and honor to Him through the display and as God's humble creation, wewere blessed in the process.   I couldn't help but send up a 'thank you' as I watched the skies.

Below is the devot. for this week, a 'creation' themed one based on today (felt the Lord wanted me to take this route) and I also included a song link.

Next Monday I am going to continue our series on trials and adversity.
Pray you have a blessed week!

Creation and the Constellations
“Which alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea. Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.” (Job 9:8-9)

The book of Job is the oldest book in the Bible. It is not surprising, therefore, that it contains a number of references to creation and the Flood, for these great events were still relatively fresh in the thinking of Job and his contemporaries. The first of these creation references in Job is our text above, and it is remarkable that it centers especially on the stars and their constellations. Still another constellation is mentioned in Job 26:13: “By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent.” Finally: “Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion? Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons? Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?” (Job 38:31-33). The term “Mazzaroth” actually means the twelve constellations of the Zodiac.

Thus, God not only created the stars, but arranged them in star groupings that could be used for “signs, and for seasons” (Genesis 1:14). Since God does nothing without a holy purpose, we can be sure that these sidereal signs were not to be used as astrological signs. God’s Word, in fact, forbids the practice of astrology (e.g., Isaiah 47:12-14). The constellations must all in some way have testified of the coming Savior. “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:6).

Before the Scriptures were given, the testimony of God’s primeval promises had somehow been written indelibly in the heavens, for those in Earth’s earliest ages who had eyes and hearts to see. HMM

Devot. No Trial is Beyong God's Ability to Help

Hi Folks,

I hope you had very blessed week!

I found this devot. and it spoke to my heart in a big way. God is always there to help, in any situation and in ways that I don't even know that I may need help or His protection.
He knows what I need and provides whatever that is as I face situations or trials in life.

Philippians 4:19 states, "But my God shall supply (He will provide for sure!) all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."

Pray this blesses you!   Lord bless you and yours this weekend!

Devot. Discerning the Source of Our Trials

Hi Folks,

I hope you had a super week!

I hope this series has been a blessing and useful so far to you. If you are not going through something at this time, I'm hoping that what you learn can be useful to you later or in the life of someone you know right now.
I heard someone say once that a person is either going through a trial, about to go through one or just got through one:)  Either way, I'm hoping what you are learning will help in someway.

The devot. for today is figuring out where out trials are coming from.  Did we make some poor choices that led to these results  or did these things pass across God's desk and He put His signature on it, giving permission to allow this into our life?

Remember I said last week that trials can produce growth (James 1:4), a closer walk with Jesus and what we have learned from it can be useful in the life of someone else we meet.

I pray this devot. would bless and encourage you this week!   Lord bless and keep you and yours.

Devot. The Trials of Life

Hi Folks,

I hope you had a good week!

This devot. is a throwback to Tuesdays devot.-how God can use the trials in our life to help us
spiritually grow, get closer to Him and that He can bring something of beauty out of the ashes (if we turn our troubles over to  Him and allow Him to do so).

I pray that this will encourage you this weekend!

Devot. Good Affliction

Hi Folks,

I hope you have had a good weekend!

For our devot. for today we are going to look at how our trials can  be turned into something good.
You may say "How could trials, troubles, pain or afflictions be GOOD?!

Romans 8:28 states, "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."

Let me start by saying that the trial or pain we are experiencing is not good,  but this verse says "we know (i.e know through Scripture and also seeing God at work in our lives) that all things (not 'some things') work together for good to them that love God
(this is a specific people group)."

I have found in my personal life that when I have handed God the pain I'm in, the bitterness, anger or fear  I have, the lack of trust/faith in Him and asked Him to make something beautiful out of bad situation-one that  I didn't get myself in because of my own foolishness or lack of judgment -but it landed on my doorstep -(i.e it crossed God's desk in Heaven and He signed His signature to it saying that this trail could come into my life for a purpose, example is Job) He has brought something beautiful of it.   Maybe not right away, but down the road I've seen beauty.

Maybe its in valuable lessons I've learned; passages of Scripture that have jumped off the page at me and become very dear in my life; I've met and been able to minister to people I would not have otherwise run into and have been able to share how they could 100% be sure of Heaven through the circumstances that caused us to meet.    Those are situations of beauty.

James 1:2-4 states, "My brethren, (brothers and sisters in Christ) count it all joy when ye fall into divers (different) temptations(trials); Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.  But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect (spiritually mature)and entire, wanting nothing."
Out of different spiritual trials can come an abundance of spiritual growth and valuable lessons, if we allow "patience (to) have her perfect work."

I'm going to touch more on this Friday and next week.   I pray that the devot. below would give you something to think about encourage you, as we learn from this topic together.

Lord bless and keep you and yours this week!
