Assurance of Salvation

 Dear Friends,

I wanted to share with you some Scriptures regarding assurance of salvation. How do you know that once you have trusted Christ, it is permanent?
There is a hymn entitled “Blessed Assurance.   Verse 1 reads, “Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.” (http://library.timelesstruths.org/music/Blessed_Assurance/).

Do you ever worry that this “blessed assurance” isn’t permanent? What promise do we have that eternal life is ours? Let’s search the Word of God!

1 John 5:11,13 says, “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son….These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life,…”

A “record” is a “legal, binding document”. In this verse the “record” is referring to God’s Word. It is a document written by inspiration of God {2 Tim. 3:16} which states He has given eternal life and it is found in Jesus Christ {John 14:6}. When John wrote this book under the Holy Spirit’s guidance, {2 Pet. 1:21} he said it was for those who had trusted in Jesus; to give them comfort and assurance that their eternity was secure. Numbers 23:19 says, “God is not a man, that he should lie;….hath he said, and shall he not do it?” Unlike human beings God doesn’t promise something and then not keep His word.

“But what if I still sin once I am saved?” Romans 3:10 says, “… There is none righteous, no, not one:” We are all sinners and will continue to be so until we get to Heaven. But 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness…” When I sin I can go directly to Jesus in prayer, sincerely ask for forgiveness and receive pardon and cleaning. As a loving parent would never disown his child, so our Heavenly Father will never send one of His children to Hell.

Christ says in John 10:27-28, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. “  For those who have trusted Him Jesus compares us to sheep that  need a shepherd.  Sheep left on their own will wander, but sheep that have a shepherd to guide them will be safe and secure from harm. We become sheep that need a shepherd when we trust Jesus and He calls Himself our "Good Shepherd" in John 10:11. In the spiritual sense, He places us in the palm of His hand and no one can pry His fingers loose.

Galatians 3:26 states, "For you are all the children of God by faith in Jesus Christ."
I have heard folks say, "We're all God's kids!"  Well, we are all His creations, He made each one of us (Psalm 139:13-16), but only those who have trusted Jesus Christ as their Savior are His kids by faith in Him.   "For you are all the children of God" -and here's the stipulation-"by faith in Jesus Christ."

I always share the story that just as a child is adopted into a family and made a legal part of that family, according to the legal system they cannot be disowned.  Biological children can be disowned by their family, but adopted children cannot.

When you trust Jesus as your Savior, you are adopted into God's family, He is your Heavenly Father and you are one of His precious children because of the faith and trust you placed in Him for salvation.  And just as an adoptive child cannot be disowned by their family, God will not disown you.  You are His for eternity!

Romans 10:9-11 says, That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

 "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.  For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed (rejected)."

If you are in doubt regarding your assurance, search the Scriptures. The Lord has given us assurance if we but only look in His Word.

“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels,….nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” {Rom. 8:38-39}

There are many, many more verses of "assurance" as found in God's Word, but this is a just a beginning.
