Devot. God's Son in the Old Testament

Hi Folks,

I hope you are having a good week!

The devot. for today shows references to Jesus in the Old Testament.    Even though He had not come to earth as we see Him in the New Testament,  since He is God and has always been, we see mentions made of Him in the Old Testament.
Also there were certain times where He did appear in the Old Testament.  Scholars call it a "Christophany" when we see Him in the Old Testament, pre-coming to
earth as the Baby in the manger.   ("A Christophany is an appearance, or non-physical manifestation, of Christ. " http://www.definitions.net/definition/christophany)

I will have to find a devot. to show you that, it's quite neat!   http://www.definitions.net/definition/christophanyr)

Pray you learn something eternally valuable from the devot. this weekend.
Lord blesses you and yours!

God's Son in the Old Testament
“I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.” (Psalm 2:7)

There are many today (especially Muslims, Jews, and Christian “liberals”) who are monotheists, believing in one supreme God but rejecting the deity of Christ. They argue that the doctrine that Jesus was the unique Son of God was invented by the early Christians and that the God of the Old Testament had no Son. Orthodox Jews in particular emphasize Deuteronomy 6:4: “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD.”

The fact is, however, that there are a number of Old Testament verses that do speak of God’s only begotten Son. Note the following brief summary.

First, there is God’s great promise to David: “I will set up thy seed after thee, . . . I will be his father, and he shall be my son. . . . thy throne shall be established for ever” (2 Samuel 7:12, 14, 16).

Consider also the rhetorical questions of Agur. “Who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son’s name, if thou canst tell?” (Proverbs 30:4).

Then there are the two famous prophecies of Isaiah, quoted so frequently at Christmastime. “Behold, a [literally ‘the’] virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel [meaning ‘God with us’]” (Isaiah 7:14). “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: . . . and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).

Perhaps the most explicit verse in this connection is our text. “The LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son” (Psalm 2:7). Then this marvelous Messianic psalm concludes with this exhortation: “Kiss the Son, . . . Blessed are all they that put their trust in him” (Psalm 2:12). HMM

Devot. He Who Made the Stars

Hi Folks,
I hope you have had a super week!

I found the devot. for today in my inbox a few days ago and thought it  was very neat:)  It kind of gives emphasizes where we are going with the devots. (i.e. Titles of God-Song of God, King)
Another title of God is Creator and this devot gives a beautiful picture of His creation of the heavens.   "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament (sky) sheweth his handywork."  (PS. 19:1)

I have included a song link, a favorite of mine, that is a good companion to this devot.
Pray it blesses you heart.

Lord bless you and yours this weekend!

He Who Made the Stars
“Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name.” (Amos 5:8)

This striking exhortation is inserted in the midst of a prophetic rebuke by God of His people Israel. They were rapidly drifting into pagan idolatry, and Amos was trying to call them back.

His exhortation, given almost 2,800 years ago, is more needed today than it ever was before. Modern pagan scientists have developed elaborate but absurdly impossible theories about the chance origin of the universe from nothing, and the evolution of stars, planets, and people from primordial hydrogen. But the mighty cosmos and its galaxies of stars—even the very constellations, such as Orion and the Pleiades (the “seven stars”), as well as the solar system—were made. All of these had to be made by an omniscient, omnipotent Creator, who certainly had a glorious purpose for it all.

Similarly, the global evidences that waters once covered all the earth’s mountains (i.e., marine fossils and water-laid sediments at their summits) cannot possibly be explained—as evolutionary geologists try to do—by slow processes acting over aeons of time. God, the Creator, had to call massive volumes of water forth from their original reservoirs and pour them out on the earth in His Flood judgment on a rebellious world.

All of these witness to the fact of creation and judgment, not to impotent “gods” personifying natural forces. Men urgently need to seek the true God of creation and salvation before judgment falls again, for “it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrews 10:31). HMM

Devot. Who is God?

Hi Friends,

I hope you have had a super start to your week!

The devot. today continues our journey towards Easter.   When we say we believe in God, Who are we really talking about?  How would describe God if someone asked you?  He is my Saviour, Creator, He came in human flesh as Jesus.....

This devot. gives some of these titles and a few more to help us better understand who God is.

I have also included a really neat, free download (some reflections on Easter) to look though at your leisure.   Click on the link below and then feel free to copy and paste the link from the window that opens.  It's from In Touch,  the same site that I use very often for devots.   I hope it is a blessing!

Lord bless you this week!

Devot. In the Flesh

Hi Folks,

I hope you have had a good week!
As I post this devot. today, I feel the Lord is leading me to prepare ourselves for Easter next month though our next set of devotionals.

I want us to explore who Jesus is-what titles (Lord, Son of God) does he have that reflect who He is?

I'm going to search for devots. that are concise and easy to read  so please pray for me as I prepare each week.   I'm excited about this and I feel this is where the Lord is leading us as a group.
The devot. for today is the foundation of everything-exploring Jesus' coming to earth (His incarnation) what is really means when Scripture says He was God and Man-equally.
This is the basis for everything else surround Easter, so please read the devot. carefully through the weekend, take it in paragraphs, and I pray the Lord will use it to enlighten your heart.

Lord bless and keep you!

Petition: Free American Pastor Andrew Brunson!

Petition taken from https://aclj.org/ located in Washington DC.

Please consider signing, passing along and praying!

" Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body"  Hebrews 13:3.

The body of Christ= those who have trusted Jesus alone as their way to get to Heaven are adopted into God' family-Galatians 3:26- and consider one another spiritual brothers and sisters-Romans 12:5, 1 Timothy 5:1-2

Remember those those who are in prison for their faith in Jesus, as if it were us that were suffering in prison.

Grace,
In breaking news, Turkey has broken its silence on Pastor Andrew.
Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim just publicly stated, "What we can do at this stage is accelerate the trial" of American Pastor Andrew Brunson.
Sign the Petition Now
Pastor Andrew - a U.S. citizen - was wrongfully arrested and imprisoned because of his Christian faith after peacefully serving the people of Turkey for 23 years.
Turkey has falsely charged him with "membership in an armed terrorist organization." Yet it has presented no evidence against him.
The fact that the Turkish Prime Minister has now publicly acknowledged and spoken out about his case shows major momentum. International pressure is beginning to work.
But now is the time to dramatically increase that pressure. Pastor Andrew should not face a trial. He has done nothing wrong. He should be released immediately and allowed to return home to his family in America.
We're aggressively advocating globally for his freedom, working with Members of Congress. Just moments ago, we delivered an oral intervention at the U.N. demanding his release. Take action with us now.

Devot. Encouraging One Another

Hi Folks,

I hope you had a good week and are staying healthy and well!  So many bugs are going around right now....

The devot. for today is about encouraging one another.   The beginning paragraph takes a little thought, as it explains the deeper meanings of some words in Scripture, but it is worth the bit of extra thought.  We are called to "come along side" others and support them in their times of need so that there is no opportunity to be either be waylaid through sin or discouragement.    The devot. goes on to explain the Holy Spirit comes along side of us in our lives when we need help as well.

I pray that the Lord brings someone to mind or into your path that you could encourage this weekend!  Lord bless you!

Devot. A Faith Worth Passing Down

HI Folks,

I hope you had a good weekend!   I felt the Lord nudge my heart to send this devot.

It is about passing our faith down to the next generation.   If you don't have children, let me reapply the context.

Do you wish to pass faith in Jesus Christ onto your nieces/nephews (biological and those who have adopted you as Aunt or Uncle), the kids next door that you are close to, the young person who works next to your cubicle, your best friend?

It cannot be acquired by osmosis or hanging with  someone; it cannot be caught like a cold.    Faith in Jesus must first be accepted by each individual, and then God can use us to instill and mentor it in others.  But we must first be nurturing it in ourselves:)

The Apostle Paul said of a young man, Timothy, who became a preacher, "When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also (2 Timothy 1:5).

Faith in Jesus first grew in Timothy's grandmother, than his mother, and then in him.   He had godly ladies in his life who demonstrated faith and he grew up to want that same faith in Jesus in his own life.

On the flip side, Jesus said in Luke 18:8, "Nevertheless when the Son of man {Jesus}cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?"    Will He find faithful, God fearing people on earth indeed.  I hope you desire to be one of them!

Pray the devot. is inspirational and give you ideas of how to live out your faith in Jesus a bit more this week!

Lord bless you!

"Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."  (Matt. 5:14, 16)

Devot. Shadows of His Presence

Hi Folks,

I hope you week has been blessed by seeing the Lord at work in your week!
Remember last week we talked about looking for His handprints in our daily lives?

The devot. for today is a topical change for the weekend.  Sometimes we need reminders, again, that the Lord is near by:)

Each of the Scriptures given below give a few  word pictures/ symbols to describe a character trait of the Lord.   For instance, think of a tree and what it represents-strength, being able to weather a storm depending on the type of tree, useful for shade and protection.

The Lord is with us through all the storms of life; He is our protector in all circumstances.

The devot. below is unique, but it was a reminder to me of all that the Lord is-my protector, defender, always there.

I have also included a song link w/ a similar title  as the devot. that was an encouragement to me in past years.

Pray both encourage your heart this weekend!

Shadows of His Presence
“And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.” (Isaiah 32:2)

In the context of this beautiful verse, the “man” is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ. To one who had been traveling in the heat of the desert, such as the Sinai wilderness, nothing was so welcome as the cool shadows behind a great rock in which one could rest for a while from the hardships of the wearying land. The symbol of the shadow is often used in the Old Testament to illustrate the refreshing presence of the Lord.

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” (Psalm 91:1). Wherever His loved ones go, He is there, and our dwelling place is there in His shadow.

There is safety there, also. “Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice” (63:7). “He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust” (91:4). He is the great Eagle as well as the great Rock, and finally also the great Tree. “As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste” (Song of Solomon 2:3).

The shadow of a great rock in a weary land, the shadow of the wings of a great eagle, the shadow of a delightful fruit tree, all of these speak beautifully of the refreshing, protecting, satisfying shadow of His presence. These are the shadows of the Almighty God, who made heaven and Earth, and now holds us in His hand. “I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art my people” (Isaiah 51:16).
