Devot. Peace, Hope, Refuge

Dear Friends,
I hope you are safe, healthy and well this week.  I have a few thoughts for you this week and a few devots. to tie into those thoughts.

Thought One:  In the midst of our ever changing and chaotic world, I am being frequently reminded that:  God is sovereign and Our hope must be in Him and His word-He never changes, He always keeps His promises, He is an anchor in time of trouble, He will never leave or forsake those who have put their personal trust in Him.  To trust anything or anything else leaves us on shaky, uncertain ground.  One of the devots.  makes us ponder and consider where does our hope come from and in Whom do we place our complete trust?

Thought Two:
"It is better to light a candle, then to curse the darkness."
Matthew 5:14-16, " “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."

In our country at this time, many folks are causing more than is needed.  They are not helping the virus situation, helping people or making a difference.   It's easy to become discouraged between the riots erupting and the virus.  However, I told a young person who was feeing anxious this week to try and do two things:

1.  Pray along with me for the Lord to convict the hearts of those who are stirring up trouble, causing damage to property and harm to others.  Pray for the safety of those police who are trying to bring the situation under control (as I stand beside those who respect their badge and seek to use it to bring peace, justice and respect, but not those who misuse it for their own gain).  Our prayers do make a difference (James 5:16)

2.  Light a candle-Send a text, email, write an old fashioned note to someone.  Ask the Lord who could use encouragement at this time and as a face or two comes to mind, sit down to send encouragement and a Bible verse to that person. I have personally been seeing the impact an action such as this makes and it's allowed me to be blessed in return.

I have several devots. that I hope will comfort and encourage you no matter where you are emotionally these days.  Pick the one that you need most at this time.   I have also added some encouraging Scriptures that I found over the weekend.

I pray the Lord uses this in your life this week to remind you that He is only a prayer over.  Lord bless and keep you and yours!

Philippians 4:6-7, "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;  and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Nahum 1:7, "The Lord is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble; And He knows those who trust in Him."

Psalm 9:10, "And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You."

Devot. God's Memorial Day

Hi Folks,  This one I am posting about a month after the fact, but it's on the topic of Memorial Day:)

I hope you had a restful Memorial Day remembering those who have served our country.

I was praying for the families who no longer have a loved one with them or those who have a loved one serving at this time.   From all the articles I have read, Memorial Day has a different flavor for military families than it does for us.   It's more serious and a time to truly reflect on those who paid the ultimate price and those in harms way, more than just having a picnic or setting off fire works.... These special families certainly need our prayers.....

I have a link with some Memorial Day Scriptures and maybe when you read it, you will offer up a prayer tonight for these amazing military families.   I also hope the devotional below is a bit of food for thought for this week.

Have a blessed week!

A Prayer for
the Frontliners

Heavenly Father, thank You for the frontliners caring for, protecting, and serving our communities, our families, and us. Thank You for these servant leaders, called to this work, trained for such a time as this, daily risking their own health and safety for others
Please protect them from harm. Give them courage and strength. Draw close, Lord, and let them feel Your presence throughout the long hours they are working.
Father, please provide everything they need, both for the people they are serving and for their loved ones. Surround them with people who will help and support them and their families, even as they selflessly care for others.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Devot. Where is Jesus in Covid-19?

Hi Folks,
I hope you are having a good week!

I have two devots. below, both I hope will encourage your hearts at this time along with a link of a simple way to help hungry children at this time.

You know,  I believe the God is using this whole situation in our world to bring people to a saving knowledge of Him, to shake people out of their apathy-whether they are a Christian who has wandered away from a close walk with the Lord, who someone who is not a Christian and  God is reaching out them to become apart of His family ("We are the children of God through faith in Jesus Christ"-Galatians 3:26).  God is wishing to get ahold of hearts one more time.

Even though some of the situations are very painful, tough, scary, God will do whatever it takes to bring a soul to an a personal relationship with Him, in order that they might have the chance to spending eternity with Him.

A verse came to mind this week in regards to how God protects those who have already trusted Him as their Savior.  Ps. 91:11, "For he (God) shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways." God gives His angels to watch over us wherever we go-the store for groceries, the bank, out for a walk.....

You are under the Lord's protection this week, rest in that.   Lord bless you and yours!

Devot. In Time of Trouble, Hope in the Lord, Mother's Day

Hi Folks,
I hope you are having a good week!!!

Happy early Mother's Day to all the moms-whether you are a biological mom, adopted, spiritual mom (i.e. you are intentionally making a spiritual and life changing impact on other ladies by putting a love for Jesus, Scripture, prayer and godliness in their lives by your words, actions), or auntie.   There are passages all though Scripture that show the impact a godly woman can make in the lives around her!

I have a few things below:   One devot. one devot. is a prayer for us to have hope in the Lord at this time, one is a Mother's Day devot.   and the last one is an encouraging reminder that God is with us in this unique time.

I pray each person will find something to encourage them this weekend!
Lord bless you and yours!

In Time of Trouble
“For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.” (Psalm 27:5

In this psalm of praise, David expresses his confidence in the Lord, even though “the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh” (v. 2). In spite of the danger, he looks to God for safety. “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (v. 1). Why did God preserve David? The answer is at least twofold.

First, David had a heart for God. “One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple” (v. 4). “Thy face, LORD, will I seek” (v. 8). “Teach me thy way, O LORD” (v. 11).

The second reason is the nature of God Himself. God, by His very nature, hates evil and extends grace toward His own. He is pictured here as a warrior conquering the evil enemies of David. His laws forbid their actions; His gospel robbed these evildoers of their grip; His final kingdom will be rid of them. Until God’s justice, His gospel, and His purpose all fail, we can be sure that He will act.

In our text, David is hidden in the Lord’s “pavilion.” The word, which literally means a protective covering, was used for the tent of the commander-in-chief. Here, with the commander-in-chief, is the most fortified, guarded, and safe area of the battleground. If the pavilion falls, the battle is lost and God has failed. Hidden in His pavilion, we are as safe as He. He sees to it that we are not frightened (v. 13) amid the din of battle, and we shall share in the ultimate victory.

In this world, we have tumultuous war; in the next, unbroken peace. Assured of the outcome, we can “wait on the LORD: [and] be of good courage” (v. 14). JDM

Devot. Dark Calvary, Holocaust Remembrance Day

Hi Folks,
I hope you have had a great week so far!!

Here is verse 2 of "The Old Rugged Cross" along with the youtube link to listen to it.  As you read the devot. and listen to verse 2, really listen to the words, even if you have heard the  song 100 times.    It has deep meaning.  The words describe how much Christ suffered for you, for me, how much He endured to make a way for folks to get to Heaven by trusting in Him, how immensely He loved us.

I also have something interesting below.  This week (Tues. April 21), was Holocaust Remembrance Day.

I wish to say that even though schools colleges and other outlets state that did not happen-the Holocaust did occur.  There are physical places, concentration camps that still exist, there are survivors that are still alive (my parents and I met a gentleman who survived it) that recount what they endured; they still bear the marks on their bodies (the identification numbers that were branded on their skin), souls and minds that bear witness to the fact that without Jesus in one's life, man is sinful, depraved, inhumane and capable of anything.

I would encourage you to read the article below the devot. called "It Must Be Told."  Educate yourself, and read with an open mind if you are one of the ones that do not think the Holocaust could possibly have occurred.   It is a very enlightening read.

Lastly, I found a neat article online of a practical way to help our health care workers, esp. if you are still getting take out for dinner:). Please read, pass along the link via email or social media to others.

I have been esp. burdened to pray for those on the Front Lines of healthcare this week.  Would you join me in passing the link along and praying for these brave, selfless folks before going to bed at night this week?

Many thanks and Lord bless you this week!!!

Easter Resources for the Family!

Hi Folks,

Since this is "Resurrection Week" and we are all still stuck inside, I have 4 several resources listed and linked below for your families this week, from the little kids to the teens and adults!   Feel free to pass along to other families in your life!

Resource 1: A Walk with Jesus, was just passed along to me by a family I know and they are enjoying it tremendously!

Resource 2: "The Bible App for kids" I found in my inbox and it helps parents explain the meaning of Easter is to your children in an understandable, fun, interactive way.

Resource 3 is from one of my favorite kids movie series, The Story Keepers.  It is an animated series about Ben the Baker, his wife Helena and their adopted children who are underground church leaders during the time of Nero.  Ben tells stories of Jesus during their meetings, but there is alot of adventure and humor along the way.   This was my all time favorite series as a child, still enjoy them:)

Resource 4 is The TorchLighters from Voice of the Martyrs.   It is an animated series about heroes of the faith, from the Bible and history. Even though they are for kids, my mom and I have watched many stories from this series and it has touched our hearts tremendously and grown our faith!    The dvd itself (at the end of each one), has a documentary of the person it featured.  So the kids and adults can learn from each hero of the faith!):

Resource #5 I am SUPER EXCITED ABOUT!!!   I don't know if you have heard of Sound and Sound Theaters, but they are located in Lancaster PA and Branson MO.  They put on live, professional dramatized productions of stories from the Bible in their 2,000 seat theater.  The acting, music, drama, costumes are incredibly stunning and impressive!!!

Below are details that they will be showing one of their live Easter plays on TV or via an app for free this weekend!  I can PROMISE that your whole family will enjoy it.   (Kids 8 and up would gain the most from it depending on your child, but the teens and adults would really enjoy this.)

I hope that each of you can find a resource that suits your family and that. Even though we are stuck inside and it doesn't feel like Easter week, it doesn't diminish the meaning or significance and we still have resources to help remind us of that.  Blessings, Grace
