Devot. Given to Us Eternal Life

Dear Friends,

I hope you have had a good week!  The devot. for today is taken out of one of my favorite passages of Scripture-1 John 5, esp. verses 11-15. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+john+5&version=KJV  It shows us Who eternal life is found in (Jesus Christ), how we can get it (Through accepting Him as our only way to Heaven) and that it is permanent (The Bible clearly shows this many times).  I pray it is a blessing to your week!

Given to Us Eternal Life
“And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.” (1 John 5:11)

Our text for today contains truths which provide great power and comfort for Christians. Let us reflect on some of them.

The word “record” needs amplification. In noun form, it means “the evidence given,” and in verb form it means “testify,” or “witness.” The apostle John used it nine times in verses 7 through 11. Study of our text and its context shows that the record mentioned is none other than the great truth that Christ Jesus was God’s only Son, and that He died as a perfect and fully sufficient sacrifice to provide us life eternal.

In our text, we see that this work of bestowing eternal life is God’s work. It is “not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us” (Titus 3:5). This eternal life is our present possession, for He “hath given” it to us (i.e., in the past). This gift is to individuals—to “us”—not to a nation or even the church, but to those who have believed. Furthermore, this “eternal life” is eternal! It will last for eternity and cannot be taken away. It is inconceivable for an omnipotent God to give “eternal life” temporarily. We are alive in Him, having been born (again) into His family. This is a permanent situation.

The tense shifts to the present in the last phrase of the text. Our “life is in his Son.” We are “in him. . . . This is the true God, and eternal life” (1 John 5:20). Our life finds its vitality in living union with the Son. His death and resurrection made life possible, and now His present life is ours. His Spirit, resident within us, provides this vitality, and since the Spirit of God is eternal, our life is eternal. “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God” (v. 13). Devot. A Voice in the Crowd

Dear Friends,
I hope you have had a blessed week!
The deot. for today is not allowing the world, ourselves, anything around us to drown out the voice of God which speaks to our hearts and mind through His Word, but also in a still small voice.
Have you ever had moments where you keep thinking someone so much you wonder if anything is wrong?
My mom has always told me that that is God impressing on/speaking to my heart to pray for that person.  That impression has been given to others in the past regarding times that my family truly needed prayer and I was asking God to bring us to the minds and hearts of specific  folks to pray for us at that time.
Or have you ever had those times of "I should" or "I shouldn't' be doing this"  That is also God speaking, quietly, yet so strongly.  Or maybe you have read a passage of Scripture and it has 'jumped off' the page at you and was what you needed to read at that time. That was also God speaking.
Isaiah 30:21 is a favorite verse of mine, "And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left."   This is my reminder that God will speak to my heart and mind through HIs Word, godly counsel, or that still small voice when I need direction in my life.   The thing we have to do though is have open ears and hearts to what is being said.
Pray this devot. is a blessing to your weekend and that you learn something new.  Lord bless and keep you and yours this weekend!

Devot. The Invisible God

Dear Friends,

I pray you have had a blessed weekend!
The devot. for today is emphasizing the "Invisible" part of God, and yet we know He is there.
We see His blessings and protection in our lives and hear Him speak to our hearts through His Word.
I pray it is a blessing to your week. Lord bless and keep you and yours!

Devot. Imortal, Invisible, God Only Wise

Dear Friends,
I hope you are having a good week!
The devot. for this week is on a character trait/attribute of God, a part of Who He is.
The title of this devot. actually comes from a verse of Scripture, but it has also been made into a song.
Below is the song link so you can hear it:
I pray it and the devot. is a blessing!

Immortal, Invisible, God Only
“Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen” (I Timothy 1:17).
Many of the grand old hymns of the faith consist of the actual words and phrases of Scripture, either repeated verbatim or paraphrased and collected around a doctrinal theme. Such is the case for the stately hymn, “Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise,” where we find, almost in list form, the attributes and character of God. In each of the next four days, we will focus our attention on one of its four verses, and through them to our great God and His nature.
Immortal, invisible God only wise, In light inaccessible hid from our eyes, Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days, Almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise.
Obviously, much of the source for this first verse comes from the benediction in our text above. God is both eternal, and immortal. “I AM THAT I AM” (Exodus 3:14) He called Himself. Later we read that the Immortal One died but rose from the dead and now “ever liveth to make intercession for (us)” (Hebrews 7:25).
Daniel called Him the “Ancient of Days” and described Him with great splendor and brilliance (Daniel 7:9–14). Paul called Him “the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords: who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen” (I Timothy 6:15,16).
Note Daniel’s testimony of praise: “Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are His, And He changeth the times and the seasons: He removeth kings, and setteth up kings: . . . and the light dwelleth with Him” (Daniel 2:20–22). JDM

Devot. The Power of the Cross

Dear Friends,
I hope you have had a blessed week!
The devotional for today is the power of the Cross of Jesus.
Many churches and even so called Christians try to diminish the power that the blood of Christ and His cross can have in the life of a person.   His sacrifice on Calvary made a difference in my life and I pray it has or will in your life.
I pray this devot. is a blessing and makes you think-How has Christ made a difference in my life?  If you can't think of anything, it isn't because He can't or hasn't, but are you letting Him make you more like Himself (make a difference)?  Pray you and yours have a blessed, safe and Christ filled weekend!
Oh, as an FYI, I received word on Wed. through the http://beheardproject.com/sudan that the Sudanese pastors I have mentioned previously in devotionals were miraculously released!  Thank you for signing petitions and praying!  They are true heros of the faith!   (Devot. below)
