Devot. When We Cry Out to God

Hi Folks,

 

I hope you had a good weekend and are healthy and well.

 

Have you ever had those days, weeks, months, moments, when you look around you and say, "Dear Lord, what on the earth are you doing?"  "What is the purpose behind this, or why is this happening?"  Of course we all have those moments wen we cry out to the Lord from the depths of our hearts.  

 

King David said in Psalm 130:1,2 , "Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O Lord.  Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications (prayer requests)."

 

If you read the book of Psalms (word actually means "songs"), you will see that King David cried out to the Lord many times from his heart in times of distress.

 

The devot. for today is on crying out to God and how He responds when we do.

Devot. No Greater Love

Hi Folks,

 

I hope you had a peaceful week and are staying healthy and well.
 

Our devot. for today is Valentine themed, but it focuses on God's love for us.

 

It is hard to wrap our minds around the fact that God willingly chose to leave the holiness and beauty of Heaven, take human a form, still be 100% God, yet 100% man (Isaiah 43:10-11, Matthew 1:23, John 1:1,14),

so that He could one day die as the payment for the sins of the world.   He did this for us that we might have eternal life  with Him through putting our faith in Jesus, instead of suffering apart from Him in Hell.  

 

Jesus said in John 15:12-13, "This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."  

 

True love is a willingness, a selflesnss to give of yourself, even yourself in the place of another if need be.  

We have seen this type of selfless action on the part of 2 teachers in FL who shielded some of the students from harm.

This is mirroring the character, nature and example of our Saviour Himself.   He took our sin, took the punishment of hell for us and by placing our trust in Him, we can escape it.

 

Last week I ran across a devot. that brought up the fact that Valentine's Day and Ash Wednesday are the same day this year.    What is the tie in?   The difference is between the emphasis on human love that can be tangible and sadly sometimes  fleeting and an eternal, everlasting love that God will always have for those who have trusted  Him and for those who have yet to trust Him.  

 

Jeremiah 31:3 says, "The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying,  Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love:  therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee."

 

We have a chance this weekend to share that eternal love with those who have not experienced it yet.

 

Since it's a week where folks may send cards to each other, take the opportunity to send a Christian ecard and message to someone in you life.

Write a handwritten note, stick a Gospel track in it or an encouraging Scripture verse. 

 

Pray and ask the Lord to give you ideas of how to reflect HIS love to someone in your path this weekend.

Devot. 8 Reasons Why God Allows Storms

Hi Folks,

 

I hope you have had a super weekend!  

 

Below is another devot. on trials and adversities.

 

What can cause them to occur?   I will never forget I pastor I know saying that sometimes trials can come because it is our own faults (we make decisions and get ourselves in a pickle) or the Lord has allowed it for a reason-spiritual growth, to help us clean out of lives, spiritually and physically, things that are preventing us from growing, to help us encourage someone else down the road because of our experience.

 

I pray this devot. would be useful, spiritual knowledge in your life today and He would use it to help someone else though you.

Devot. Gratitiude In Affliction

Hi Folks,

 

I hope you are having a blessed week!

 

I hope you are enjoying our devotional topic on storms and spiritually growing through it.

I'm not trying to depress anyone with the idea of storms and trials, but I'm trying to prepare ahead of time.

 

I've heard the expression, "You are either going through a storm, having gone through one, or about to go through one."

 

It's good to spiritually prepare ourselves ahead of time, for the testing and trials that can come our way, like anyone would prepare for a storm.  I pray that this bolsters you this week!

Devot. When It All Goes Up in Flour

Hi Folks,

I hope you are having a good weekend!  

 

As we continue through the New Year, I'm sure we are all hoping and praying that life will go smoothly, that there will be as few trials and testing as possible, that our loved ones will stay healthy and well.  But life isn't always clear sailing, is it?

 

Proverbs 16:9 says, "A man's heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps."  

We can plan out our lives, but God is the one who ultimately really directs our footsteps.  And sometimes curve balls are sent our way.   At times, those circumstances are our own doing, sometimes God sends them along to try, test and refine our faith, draw us closer to Himself and help us spiritually grow.

 

I know the title of this devot. is interesting, but under the title in the devot. the writer stated, "What to do when life gets messy?"  How do we praise when life is a challenge?   How do we deal with challenges, unexpected circumstances, in a Christ like way?

 

I pray the devot. is an encouragement to your weekend and gives you some godly counsel in this area that will prepare you for when life takes unexpected turns.

Devot. Glorifying God Through Praise

Hi Folks,

The devot. for today is a reminder to give praise to God for all He has done in 2017 and all He can do in 2018.

Psalm 68:19 says, "Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah. (Means 'think on this')

December 31, 2017 Glorifying God Through Praise “Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.” (Psalm 50:23)   The great summarizing commandment of the apostle Paul was, “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31). That is, every aspect of our lives should be so ordered as to glorify God in whatever we say and do.   This is a difficult rule to follow, for how do we determine whether such and such an action glorifies God or not? Nevertheless, there is one thing we can do that we can be absolutely certain does glorify Him—that is, offering to Him our praise and our thanks. We should offer praise for His person and work in general, thanks for what He is and does for us in particular. “Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me!”   This is His assurance and our incentive to praise Him in all things. “In every thing give thanks,” says the apostle, “for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18).   On this last day of the year, especially, praise and thanks should pour from our hearts and lips if we would “ordereth our conversation aright.” “Bless the LORD, O my soul,” says the psalmist, “and forget not all his benefits” (Psalm 103:2). Most of us all too commonly tend to forget all His benefits and fret over our troubles and burdens.   If we desire to glorify God, on the other hand, we should recount all our blessings and leave our burdens with Him. In the words of the old hymn: “Count your many blessings, see what God hath done!” Then will “the peace of God, which passeth all understanding” (Philippians 4:7) fill our hearts and minds, enabling the indwelling Holy Spirit to “shew the salvation of God” not only to us, but in us and through us to others.
